आकाशातील चित्तरकथा – सिंह , मघा व फाल्गुनी
संधीकाळानंतर पुर्वेकडील आकाशामध्ये, या दिवसांमध्ये दिसणारे हे, ओळखण्यास अतिशय सोपे असे तारकामंडल आहे. अन्य सर्व राशी व नक्षत्रांप्रमाणेच याचे नाव देखील जगातील सर्वच सभ्यतांमध्ये सिंह असेच आहे. म्हणजे त्या अर्थाचे आहे. आधुनिक खगोल शास्त्राने तयार केलेल्या ८८ तारकासमुहांच्या यादीतील हे, खुप प्राचीन काळापासुन ओळखले जाणारे तारकामंडल आहे. प्राचीन भारतीय आणि सध्यादेखील आपण या तारकासमुहास सिंह म्हणुन संबोधतो. पर्शियन लोक यास सेर किंवा शिर असे म्हणत, तुर्क अर्टन तर सिरियन अर्यो म्हणत, आणि ज्यु लोक यास अर्ये असे म्हणत.
आकाशामध्ये सिंह कसा ओळखणार?
आकाशामध्ये सिंह ओळखण्याची एक सोपी पध्दत आहे. तुम्हाला जर उत्तर-पुर्व आकाशामध्ये उगवणारे सप्तर्षी माहित असतील तर सिंह म्हणजे लिओ ओळखणे अगदीच सोपे आहे. सप्तर्षी मधील सर्वात आधी उगवणारे दोन ता-यांचा वापर करुन आपण ध्रुव तारा शोधतो. ध्रुव तारा शोधण्यासाठी सप्तर्षी च्या या सुरुवातीच्या दोन ता-यांपासुन आपण एक काल्पनिक रेष काढतो, त्या दोन ता-यांमधील अंतराच्या सहा पट, उत्तर दिशेला. तीच रेष तशीच दक्षिणेकडे काढली तर ती सरळ सिंह तारकासमुहामधील सर्वात तेजस्वी तारा म्हणजे “मघा” नक्षत्राच्या ता-याला जाऊन मिळते. खालील फोटो पहा.
सध्या पुर्वेच्या आकाशात संध्याकाळी नऊच्या सुमारास पुर्ण सिंह उगवलेला असतो. हे तारकासमुह पुर्ण उगवलेले असताना पुर्वेकडील आकाशामध्ये खालील प्रमाणे दिसेल.
भारतीय फलज्योतिषामधील बारा राशिंपैकी सिंह ही एक राशि आहे. या राशिमध्ये २७ नक्षत्रांपैकी मघा (पुर्ण ), पुर्वा फाल्गुनी (पुर्ण) आणि उत्तरा फाल्गुनी (एक चतुर्थांश भाग) या तीन नक्षत्रांचा समावेश होतो. खालील फोटो पहा.
विविध संस्कृत्या, सभ्यतांना या तारका समुहामध्ये सिंह दिसला. तो सिंह कसा कल्पिला गेला आहे ते देखील खालील फोटोमध्ये पहा.
ग्रीक मधील एका शहराच्या प्रवेशद्वारावर एक सिंहाचे शरीर, व मानवाचे मस्तक असलेल्या एका प्राण्याला बसवण्यात आले. हा प्राणी, अर्थातच मानवी डोके असल्यामुळे बोलु शकत होता. त्याला स्फिंक्स म्हंटले गेले आहे. हा स्फिंक्स शहरात येणा-या प्रत्येक वाटसरुला कोड घालीत असे. ज्याला कोड सुटणार नाही त्या वाटसरुला आपले प्राण गमवावे लागत. त्यातील पहिले कोडे खालीलप्रमाणे होते.
असा कोणता प्राणी आहे की ज्याला आवाज एकच आहे पण चार पाय, दोन पाय व नंतर तीन पायांनी चालतो. तिच्या या कोड्याचे उत्तर कुणालाच देता येईना व प्रचंड अशी आग ओकत त्या स्फिंक्स ने उत्तर न देणा-या प्रत्येक वाटसरुला जाळुन भस्म करण्यास सुरुवात केली. या भयंकर संकटाला शेवटी राजा ओडीपस सामोरा गेला व त्याने कोड्याचे योग्य उत्तर देऊन स्फिंक्स ला शांत केले.
या प्राण्याचे आणखी एक कोडे सांगितले जाते. अशा कोणत्या दोन बहिणी आहे की ज्यातील पहिली दुसरीला जन्म देते व दुसरी पुन्हा पहिलीला जन्म देते?
या कोड्यांची उत्तरे शोधण्याचा देखील प्रयत्न करा, बघु जमतय का तुम्हाला?
तर काही पुरातत्व संशोधकांच्या मते , स्फिंक्स म्हणजे आकाशातील सिंहच आहे. सुर्य जेव्हा सिंह राशी मध्ये प्रवेश करतो तेव्हा सर्वत्रच तापमान खुपच वाढते. आणि ही गोष्ट अगदी प्राचीन काळापासुन मानवास माहित आहे. त्यामुळेच सिंह राशि नेहमीच आग व ताप यांचे प्रतीक मानली गेली आहे.
स्फिंक्स चा फोटो
भारतातील चिदंबरम येथील नटराज सदाशिवाच्या मंदिराबाहेरील सिंहाची मुर्ती. या नंदीस मस्तक मनुष्याचे आहे. त्यामुळे यास पुरुषसिंह असे म्हणतात.

तसेच मध्यप्रदेशामधील बाहरुत येथील एका बौध्द स्तुपावर देखील असाच पुरुषसिंह कोरलेला आढळतो. कालावधी साधारण इसवी सनाच्या पुर्वीचे पहिले शतक.
युरोपात अगदी अलीकडच्या काळात म्हणजे १५ व्या शतकात स्फिंक्स हा कलाकृतीमधील एक उद्देश्श बनला.
प्राचीन बेबिलोनियावासी या तारकासमुहास अरु असे म्हणत. अरु म्हणजे सिंह. व याची पुजा देखील केली जायची.
या तारकासमुहा विषयी आणखी एक पौराणिक साहस कथा प्राचीन ग्रीक साहित्यात येते. हरक्युलीस नावाचा एक योध्दा, एकदा नशेमध्ये, स्वप्नरंजनामध्ये असताना स्वःतच्याच पत्नी व मुलाची हत्या करतो. जेव्हा शुध्दीवर येतो तेव्हा त्याला समजते की त्याने किती वाईट कृत्य केले आहे. त्यामुळे पश्चाताप करीत तो डेल्फी येथील देवदुताकडे जातो. पश्चाताप म्हणुन मग हरक्युलीस ला १२ अशक्य अशी कामे सोपवली जातात. या १२ कामातील पहिले काम असते नेमिया या देशातील एका महासिंहास मारणे. महा-सिंह म्हणायचे कारण असे की हा सिंह आकाराने खुपच मोठा असुन त्याने नेमिया राज्यात अक्षरशः निष्पाप प्राणी, माणसांचे हत्यासत्रच चालविलेले असते. या सिंहाची आणखी एक खासियत असते. त्यावर कोणत्याच शस्त्राचा वार होऊ शकत नव्हता. म्हणजे त्याचे चामडे, त्वचा अभेद्य असते. प्रत्यक्ष युध्द प्रसंगी हरक्युलीस जेव्हा शस्त्रे वापरुन थकतो तेव्हा तो शस्त्राशिवायच या सिंहावर तुटून पडतो. दोघांमध्ये तुंबळ कुस्ती होते. व शेवटास सिंह हरक्युलीस कडुन मारला जातो. हरक्युलीस चा पिता , देवाधिदेव झिऊस, सिंहाच्या या पराक्रमावर खुष होऊन त्याला स्वर्गात म्हणजेच आकाशामद्ये स्थान देतो. ग्रीक-रोमन आदीमध्ये ही गोष्ट थोड्या अधिक फरकाने येते. प्राचीन साहित्यामध्ये हा सिंह नेमियन लायन म्हणुन खुप चर्चिला गेला आहे. यावर नुकताच एक हॉलिवुड सिनेमा देखील आला आहे. The legend of Hercules.
प्राचीन भारतीय साहित्यात, पुराणांमध्ये या आकाशातील सिंहाच्या बाबतीत उल्लेख आढळत नाही. जसे मागील एका लेखामध्ये सांगितल्याप्रमाणे,फलज्योतिषातील राशि ही संकल्पना मुळ भारतीय नसल्याने, भारतीय साहित्यामध्ये राशिंच्या कथा फारशा येत नाहीत. भारतात, हजारो वर्षांपासुन खगोलशास्त्र खुपच प्रगत व विकसित झालेले होते. या खगोल शास्त्राचा आधार आहे, भारतीय नक्षत्रे. त्यामुळे सिंह राशिमधील मघा, व फाल्गुनी नक्षत्रांचा उल्लेख विविध प्राचीन साहित्यामध्ये आढळतो.
मघा नक्षत्राचा उल्लेख ऋग्वेदामध्ये येतो. त्यात या नक्षत्रास ‘अघा’ असे ही म्हंटले आहे. मघ शब्दाचा अर्थ आहे धनधान्याचा वर्षाव. धनाला लाभ होण्याचे संकेत. व मघा हा अनेकवचनी शब्द आहे. वैदिक काळी जेव्हा सुर्य या नक्षत्रामध्ये पोहोचायचा तेव्हा, जवळपास सर्वच पिकांची काढणी झालेली असायची व धनलाभच व्हायचा. त्यामुळे अन्य नक्षत्रांप्रमाणेच, या नक्षत्राचे नाव, वर्णनाला साजेसेच आहे. बेबिलोन मध्ये यास शर्रु म्हणत, त्यानंतर इसवीसनाच्या दुस-या शतकामध्ये टोलेमी नावाच्या फलज्योतिष, गणित, भुगोल इत्यादीच्या अभ्यासकाने या नक्षत्रास बेसिलिक्स म्हणजे राजा असे नाव दिले. युरोपामध्ये रेगिया, रेक्स अशा नावांनी या तारकासमुहास ओळखले जात होते. त्यातुनच पुढे कोपरनिकस ने १५ व्या शतकामध्ये रेगुलस असे नाव या तारकासमुहास दिले.
मघा नक्षत्र सिंह तारका समुहाच्या, म्हणजेच , काल्पनिक सिंहाच्या अगदी हृद्याच्या स्थानीच दिसते. त्यामुळे रोमन लोकांनी यास कोरलिओनिस या नावाने देखील ओळखले. तर अरबी लोकांसाठी हा तारा, अल-कल्ब अल-असद म्हणजे सिंहाचे हृद्य या नावाचा होता.
या तारकासमुहातील मुख्य तारा म्हणजे मघा नक्षत्र, ज्यास रेग्युलस असेही म्हणतात, हा पृथ्वीपासुन अंदाजे ७७ प्रकाशवर्षे इतका दुर आहे. (एक प्रकाश वर्ष म्हणजे, एक प्रकाश किरण, एका मानवी वर्षाच्या काळात, जेवढे अंतर प्रवास करु शकेल, तेवढे अंतर. प्रकाश किरणाचा वेग एका सेकंदाला ३ लक्ष किमी इतका असतो, आता गुणाकार करा, की एवढ्या गतिने, प्रकाश किरण एका वर्षात किती अंतर प्रवास करेल व ७७ वर्षात किती करेल)
मघा ता-यामध्ये , दुरबिणीतुन पाहिल्यावर दोन तारे दिसतात. याव्यतिरिक्त सिंह राशिमध्ये अन्य सात मुख्य व कित्येक छोटे छोटे तारे आहेत. वुल्फ३५९ हा असाच एक छोटा तारा, की जो पृथ्वीपासुन केवळ ८ प्रकाशवर्षे दुर आहे, तो देखील सिंह राशिमध्येच आहे. Gliese 436 नावाच्या एका धुसर ता-याभोवती पृथ्वी सारखाच, आकारमानाने थोडा मोठा असा ग्रह देखील खगोलींना सापडला आहे. ग्लीज हा तारा आपल्या सुर्यापासुन ३३ प्रकाशवर्षे इतक्या अंतरावर आहे.
अनेक छोट्या मोठ्या ता-यांसोबतच, या राशिमध्ये अनेक दिर्घीका म्हणजेच आकाशगंगा देखील आहेत. या आकाशगंगा कित्येक दशलक्ष प्रकाशवर्षे दुर असुन देखील एखाद्या दुर्बिणीतुन किंवा छोट्या टेलीस्कोप मधुन देखील त्या दिसतात. यातील सर्वात महत्वाच्या मानल्या गेलेल्या ३ आकाशगंगा म्हणजे लिओ ट्रिपलेट आकाशगंगा. या लिओ ट्रिपलेट चे भासचित्र खाली पहा.
Messier 65, Messier 66 या दोन व NGC3628 ही एक अशा तीन आकाशगंगा या तिळ्यामध्ये आहेत, सोबतच Messier 95, Messier 97, Messier 105, and NGC 3628 सारख्या आकाशगंगा देखील आपण टेलीस्कोपच्या मदतीने पाहु शकतो. मागील प्रत्येक आकाशदर्शान कार्यक्रमात आपण लिओ ट्रिप्लेट दुर्बिणीतुन पाहु शकलो आणि आलेल्या पर्यटकांना देखील दाखवु शकलो.
NGC 2903 ही अशीच आणखी एक आकाशगंगा आहे की जी पृथ्वीपासुन ३० दशलक्ष प्रकाशवर्षे इतकी दुर आहे. इतक्या दुरवर असुन देखील पृथ्वीच्या दक्षिण गोलार्धातुन ही आकाशगंगा टेलीस्कोपच्या सहाय्याने पाहता येऊ शकते. या आकाशगंगेचा शोध महान वैज्ञानिक विलियम हर्षेल यांनी सन १७८४ मध्ये लावला.
अनेक तारे, अनेक आकाशगंगा यासोबतच सिंह राशी उल्कावर्षावासाठी देखील ओळखली जाते. आकाशातील सिंहाच्या मुखातुन, परग्रहवासीयांनी पृथ्वीवर आक्रमण केल्याचे उल्लेख युरोपामध्ये आढळतात. आणि हा काळ काही फार जुना नाहीये. अगदी पधराव्या किंवा सोळाव्या शतकातील ही घटना असावी. आकाशात सिंह आहे हे सर्वांनाच माहित आहे. पण तो सिंह पृथ्वीवर आक्रमण देखील करु शकतो हे त्या वेळी युरोपातील लोकांना नवीनच समजले होते. आकाशातुन जणु बॉम्बगोळेच पृथ्वीच्या दिशेने फेकले जात आहे असे सर्वांना वाटले. सर्वत्र हाहाकार झाला व लोक सैरभैर पळु लागले. आणि दुस-या रात्री मात्र बॉम्ब सदृश्य गोळे पडण्याचे प्रमाण थोडे कमी झाले. काय होत आहे कुणालाच समजत नव्हते. कालांतराने लोकांस समजले की ते जे काही होते त्यास उल्का वर्षाव म्हणतात व त्यात घाबरण्यासारखे काहीही नव्हते. हाच तो सिंह राशितील उल्का वर्षाव. दरवर्षी नोव्हेंबर मध्ये हा उल्कावर्षाव होत असतो.
सिंह राशीतील, मघा नक्षत्रापासुन माघ महिना, म्हणजे (आता माघ महिनाच सुरु आहे) व फाल्गुनी पासुन फाल्गुन महिना अशी नावे पडली.
