The Sky
Step away from artificial lights and spend winter nights exploring the universe with experienced astronomy guides and telescopes.
DARK SKIES · ASTRONOMY · TELESCOPESLeave behind the lights, noise and crowded New Year celebrations. Journey into the high Himalayas and welcome 2027 beneath a sky filled with stars.
This is a 5-night winter expedition through Ladakh where the landscape and the night sky become part of the same experience. Explore winter Ladakh by day, discover the universe through telescopes at night, experience local food and culture, and spend the final night of the year in the silence of the Himalayas.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF NEW YEAR
What if your New Year's celebration wasn't about crowds, fireworks and city lights?
What if you could spend the last night of the year surrounded by mountains, silence and one of the most spectacular night skies you have ever seen?
In the high Himalayas, winter brings exceptionally clear, dark nights. Far away from the glow of India's cities, Ladakh offers a rare opportunity to experience the night sky as our ancestors once did — with your own eyes, and through telescopes that reveal worlds far beyond our own.
No fireworks.
No city lights.
Just the Himalayas and the stars.
MORE THAN STARGAZING
The night sky is our reason to travel into Ladakh. But it is only one part of the journey.
Step away from artificial lights and spend winter nights exploring the universe with experienced astronomy guides and telescopes.
DARK SKIES · ASTRONOMY · TELESCOPESDiscover a very different Ladakh. Snow-covered landscapes, high-altitude valleys, monasteries and winter silence become part of the expedition.
HIMALAYAS · WINTER · EXPLORATIONExperience Ladakh beyond its landscapes through local food, stories, culture and the warmth of the communities who call these mountains home.
CULTURE · FOOD · LOCAL EXPERIENCES
Come for the stars.
Stay for everything else.
THE NIGHT SKY IS THE JOURNEY
Astronomy is not a one-evening activity on this expedition. We have time to slow down, adapt to the altitude, find the darkest locations, and let each night reveal something new.
Arrive in Ladakh, settle into the high-altitude landscape and allow yourself time to slow down. The first evening is about getting comfortable, looking up and beginning to understand the sky above you.
Begin your journey into observational astronomy. Learn how to recognise the night sky, understand what you are looking at and discover how astronomers navigate the darkness.
With more than one night available, there is no need to rush. Spend longer observing, ask questions, explore new objects and experience the changing character of the Himalayan night.
As the year draws to a close, step outside once again. Another winter night, another opportunity to look deeper into the universe and experience Ladakh after dark.
On New Year's Eve, the night sky becomes the setting for something memorable. Leave the city countdown behind and welcome the new year surrounded by the Himalayas.
The sky changes every night.
So does the way we experience it.
LADAKH · WINTER
Winter changes Ladakh completely. The crowds thin out, the landscape slows down, and the high Himalayas reveal a quieter, more intimate side of themselves.
Travel through dramatic Himalayan landscapes at a time when Ladakh feels remarkably still. Snow-covered valleys, rugged mountains and vast open horizons become part of the journey.
Discover the region beyond its famous viewpoints. Monasteries, villages, local stories and everyday life offer glimpses into a culture shaped by mountains, seasons and centuries of adaptation.
Winter is also about coming indoors. Expect comforting local food, warm spaces and the simple pleasure of sharing stories after a day spent in the cold mountain air.
There is something special about being in Ladakh in winter. Fewer people, quieter roads and long nights create space to slow down, observe and simply be present.
By day, we explore the land.
By night, we explore the universe.
31 DECEMBER · LADAKH
No crowded streets.
No loud countdown.
No fireworks lighting up the sky.
Instead, imagine stepping outside into the cold Himalayan night. The mountains around you. The sky above you. A little warmth, a few good people, and the last moments of one year slowly giving way to the next.
And when midnight arrives...
perhaps the most memorable
celebration is simply
looking up.
WELCOME 2027 UNDER THE LADAKHI SKY
Be Part of ItTHE ASTRONOMY EXPERIENCE
Learn to read the night sky, explore distant worlds through telescopes and experience astronomy in a landscape where darkness is still truly dark.
ORIENT
Begin by understanding what is above you. Learn to recognise constellations, find your way around the sky and understand how the stars appear to move through the night.
OBSERVE
Telescopes open another universe. Explore celestial objects that cannot be experienced in the same way with the naked eye, guided by experienced astronomy practitioners.
UNDERSTAND
Astronomy becomes more fascinating when you understand what you are seeing. Spend time with the guides, ask questions and connect what you see in the sky with the larger story of our universe.
EXPERIENCE
Far from city lights, the Milky Way becomes part of the landscape itself. Some moments need no telescope at all — just a clear night, a warm jacket and time to look up.
The exact observing programme will depend on weather, sky conditions and the final expedition locations.
