अनादी अनंत आकाश
“हरी अनंत हरी कथा अनंत“ हे हिंदी भक्तिगीत आपण ऐकले असेलच. हरी म्हणजे तो जगन्नियंता. तो सर्वव्यापक, सर्वशक्तिमान की ज्याच्या कल्पनेने हे विश्व जन्माला आले आहे. किंवा हे विश्व म्हणजे ज्याची नुसती लीला आहे. या ब्रह्माम्डाचा पसारा किती असेल तर अनंत आहे. हे ब्रह्मांड अनंत आहे. त्यास आदी नाही की त्यास अंत ही नाही. आपण आपल्या इंद्रीयाच्या मदतीने या विश्वाचे, ब्रह्माम्डाचे आकलन करण्याचा प्रयत्न करीत असतो. पण हे ब्रह्मांड नुसते अनादी , अनंत नसुन ते आपल्या इंद्रीयांस अगोचर, अगम्य देखील आहे. तरीदेखील मनुष्याने अगदी प्राचीन काळापासुन या ब्रह्माम्डाचा शोध बाहेर घेण्यासाठी आजवर अनेक प्रयत्न केले. या प्रयत्न आपणास बहुतांश यश देखील मिळाले आहे. तरीदेखील आज आपण जेवढे जाणतो ते खुपच तोकडे आहे.
या आकाशाविषयी जलद गतीने अभ्यास मागच्या दोन तीन शतकांमध्ये झाला असे अनेकदा म्हंटले जाते. पण हे सत्य नाहीये. आकाश किती व्यापक आहे, त्याचे गुण काय आहेत, त्याचे वर्तन काय आहे या विषयी खुप खोलवर अभ्यास भारतामध्ये अगदी प्राचीन काळापासुन सुरु आहे.
ज्ञात लिखित उपलब्ध ग्रंथसंपदेवरुन असे समजते की भास्कराचार्य पहिले व दुसरे यांनी खगोल शास्त्रावर विपुल लिखाण केले. त्यांच्या अनेक सिध्दांताचा आधार वेद वेदांतच होते. वराहमिहिर, आर्यभट हे मागील सहस्त्राकातील अभ्यासक देखील खुप मोलाचे कार्य करुन गेले. तेच काय तर अगदी आपल्या मराठी संत साहित्यामध्ये देखील अंतरीक्ष, म्हणजे आकाशाचे सर्रास वर्णन पहावयास मिळते. उदाहरण दाखल इथे ज्ञानेश्वर माऊलींच्या काही ओव्या देत आहे ज्यामध्ये त्यांनी आकाशाच्या मुलभुत गुणधर्माविषयी सांगितले आहे. आकाश कसे आहे हे माहित असल्याशिवाय त्याचे संदर्भ किंवा उपमा ते वापरु शकले नसते. इतकेच काय तर सामान्य जीवनातील समस्या किंवा समाधान या विषयी बोलताना त्यांनी आकाशाचे संदर्भ दिले आहेत. याचा अर्थ माऊलींच्या श्रोत्यांना देखील आकाशाविषयी व त्याच्या स्वभावाविषयी ज्ञान होतेच.

योगमायेचे पडद्यामुळे । ते झाले असती आंधळे । म्हणोनि प्रकाशाचेही बळें । न देखती मज ॥१५८॥

पवन कोण न शिवे? । आकाश कोठे न समावे? । हे असो, एक मीचि आघवे । विश्वीं असे ॥१६०॥
बारावा अध्याय
वन्हिची ज्वाला जैसी । वायां जाये आकासिं ।
क्रिया जिरों दे तैसी । शून्यामाजि ॥३२ ॥
व्यापक आणि उदास । जैसें हें आकाश ।
तैसें जेयाचें मानस । सर्वगत ॥ १८० ॥
जो निंदेतें नेघे। स्तुतितें न श्लाघे ।
आकाशा न लगे । लेपु जैसा ॥ ६ ॥
हे आकाश कसे आहे? तर ते अनादी आहे! अनंत आहे!
अनंत शब्दाचा अर्थ स्पष्ट आहे. ज्याला अंत नाही असे , ते अनंत. त्या सोबतच ज्याची सुरुवात आपणास माहित नाही ते म्हणजे अनादी. आपण पुर्वीपासुन अनादी व अनंत हे शब्द ऐकत आलो आहे. स्वा. सावरकरांची अजरामर कविता “अनादी मी अनंत मी” तर आपल्या सारख्या करोडो मराठी भाषिकांच्या मनावर कायमची कोरली गेली आहे.
एकीकडे या ब्रह्मांडाची व्यापकता, ब्रह्मांडाची विस्तार पाहिला की आपणास आपल्या या क्षुद्र मन,अहंकार, बुध्दी जनित स्वःत ची किव आल्यावाचुन राहत नाही. तर दुसरीकडे सावरकरांसारख्या लोकोत्तर माणसाने स्वःतविषयी अर्थातच या समस्त मानवजाती विषयीच एवढे धाडसी विधान करणे हे म्हणजे एकाच नाण्याच्या दोन बाजु असल्यासारखी ही दोन विधाने आहेत.
आकाश अनंत त्यात आकाशगंगा अनंत, प्रत्येक आकाशगंगेमध्ये तारे (आपल्या सुर्यासारखे) अनंत, आणि ता-यांभोवती फिरणारे ग्रहगोल देखील अनंत.
आधुनिक खगोलशास्त्राने (हबल दुर्बिणीच्या मदतीने) या विश्वातील (ब्रह्मांडातील) विविध आकाशगंगांचे निरीक्षण केले. या निरीक्षणात मनुष्यालाअ असे समजले की या ब्रह्मांडामध्ये २०० अब्ज आकाशगंगा आहेत. एक अब्ज म्हणजे १,००,००,००,००० एवढी मोठी संख्या आहे. दोनशे अब्ज म्हणजे २००,००,००,००,००० म्हणजे २ या संख्येवर ११ शुन्य. २०० अब्ज आकाशगंगा या अशा आहेत की ज्या आपणास माहित आहेत. त्यापेक्षा कित्येक पटींनी जास्त आकाशगंगा ब्रह्मांडामध्ये असण्याची शक्यता आहे. म्हणजे आपली आकाशगंगा सोडली तर किंवा आपली आकाशगंगा विनाश पावली तरी ब्रह्मांडामध्ये १९९९९९९९९९९९ इतक्या आकाशगंगा शिल्लक राहतील. ब्रह्मांडाच्या चलन वलनावर फारसा परिणाम होणार नाही.
हबल डीप फिल्ड दुर्बिणीतुन आपण जेवढे पाहु शकलो, तेवढेच हे ब्रह्मांड आहे का? तर याचे उत्तर “कदाचित नाही” असे आहे. हबल ची पाहु शकण्याची क्षमता तेवढी आहे. या क्षमतेच्या पलीकडे असणारे ब्रह्मांड आपण कसे पाहु शकणार? यासाठीच पुढील खुपच महत्वकांक्षी प्रकल्प हाती घेण्यात आला आहे. त्याचे नाव आहे जेम्स वेब्ब दुर्बिण. वेब्ब दुर्बिणी इन्फ्रा रेड किरणांच्या मदतीने, अनंत आकाशाच्या शक्य तितक्या दुरवर असलेल्या आकाशगंगा, तारे पाहण्याचे काम करणार आहे. वेब्ब दुर्बिणीविषयी अधिक माहिती करुन घेण्यासाठी खालील व्हिडीयो अवश्य पहा.
आता आपण आकाशगंगा म्हणजे नेमके काय हे पाहुयात. आकाशगंगा म्हणजे असंख्य अशा ता-यांचा समुह. या समुहातील तारे एका विशिष्ट गतीने व विशिष्ट कक्षेमध्ये, एका विशिष्ट केंद्राभोवती सद सर्वदा भ्रमण करीत असतात. आकाशगंगेचा विस्तार खुपच मोठा असतो. माणसास ज्ञात असलेल्या आकाशगंगापैंकी सर्वात जवळची व आपण (म्हणजे आपली सौरमाला) ज्या आकाशगंगेमध्ये आहोत तिला दुग्ध मेखला किंवा नुसतेच आकाशगंगा असे म्हंटले जाते.
आपल्या या दुग्धमेखले मध्ये म्हणजेच आकाशगंगेमध्ये किती तारे आहेत? तर एक प्राथमिक अंदाज याचे उत्तर २०० अब्ज तारे असे देतो. पुन्हा एकदा वर दोनशे अब्ज म्हणजे नक्की किती वाचा.

यापुढे आता आपण पाहुयात सुर्य म्हणजे काय ते. सुर्य म्हणजे दुसरे तिसरे काही नसुन वर सांगितलेल्या, आपल्या आकाशगंगेतील २०० अब्ज ता-यांपैकी एक साधारण असा तारा आहे. म्हणजे आपला सुर्य सोडला तर किंवा आपला सुर्य विनाश पावला तरी आकाशगंगेमध्ये १९९९९९९९९९९९ इतके तारे शिल्लक राहतील. आकाशगंगेच्या परिचलनावर आपल्या सौरमालेच्या असण्याने किंवा नसण्याने फार काही फरक पडणार नाही.
सुमारे पाच पैकी एका सूर्याएवढ्या आकाराच्या ताऱ्याभोवती पृथ्वीएवढ्या आकाराचा परग्रह त्या ताऱ्याच्या वास्तव्य योग्य क्षेत्रामध्ये परिभ्रमण करतो असा अंदाज लावला जातो. म्हणजे आकाशगंगेमध्ये २०० अब्ज तारे आहेत असे मानले, तर असा अंदाज लावता येतो की, आकाशगंगेमध्ये पृथ्वीएवढ्या आकाराचे संभाव्य वास्तव्य योग्य ११ अब्ज ग्रह आहेत.

हे वर जे काही आकडे मी लिहिले आहेत ते सर्व त्या अनंतातील अगदी क्षुद्र आकडे असण्याची शक्यता आहे. ज्ञात ब्रह्मांड एवढे मोठे आहे की आपण त्याची कल्पना देखील करु शकत नाही तर अज्ञात ब्रह्मांड केवढे असेल आणि किती विस्तीर्ण असेल, किंवा अद्याप आपणास जे प्रश्न पडले देखील नाहीत अशा प्रश्नांची उत्तरे देखील या अज्ञात ब्रह्मांडामध्ये दडली असण्याची शक्यता आहे.
तर हे अनादी अनंत आकाश की जे सर्वत्र आहे, दुरवरच्या आकाशगंगांमध्ये ही आहे व अगदी आपल्या शरीरातील प्रत्येक पेशी पेशीत देखील आहे, त्याच आकाशाचा शोध घेण्याची मानवी मनाची हौस कधी पुर्ण होईल की नाही?

The Orionid meteor shower is the second meteor shower created by Comet Halley. The Eta Aquarids in May is the other meteor shower created by debris left by Comet Halley. Halley takes around 76 years to make a complete revolution around the Sun. It will next be visible from Earth in 2061.
